By car

TO HARBORSIDE:

Directions from BPG (Berkeley):

  • go southwest down San Pablo (in the opposite direction of University Ave.)

  • turn right on Ashby

  • take the 80 West on ramp toward San Francisco

  • stay in your middle lanes and take the 880 South to Alameda/San Jose exit (the freeway splits in three, 880 is the middle)

  • continue on 880 South until you pass Downtown Oakland

  • when you see a large building that says "National Furniture Liquidators" on your right, slow down and begin looking for the next exit

  • take the 16th St. exit (it is the first exit after passing Downtown Oakland's large buildings, and it has a small sign)

  • turn left at stop sign (at the end of the off ramp)

  • continue down Embarcadero for 1/4 mile

  • when you see the Motel 6 on your right hand side, look diagonally across the street to your left, and you should see 1840

    Directions from CARE (Downtown Oakland):

  • continue down Broadway (toward lower number streets), and drive underneath the freeway

  • turn left on 5th Street (it is the first street after the overpass, and it's a one way)

  • continue on 5th Street until it becomes an 880 South on ramp--get on the freeway

  • when you see a large building that says "National Furniture Liquidators" on your right, slow down and begin looking for the next exit

  • take the very next exit off of 880 South, which is 16th Street

  • turn left at the stop sign (at the end of the off ramp)

  • continue down Embaradero for 1/4 mile

  • when you see the Motel 6 on your right hand side, look diagonally across the street to your left, and you should see 1840

    Directions from Hayward, San Leandro, South Bay:

  • take 880 North toward Downtown Oakland

  • take the 5th Ave./Embarcadero Exit

  • at bottom of off ramp, turn left and go under the freeway

  • at first stop sign, turn left

  • continue on Embarcadero for 1/2 mile

  • when you see the Motel 6 on your right hand side, look diagonally across the street to your left, and you should see 1840

    Directions from Walnut Creek, Lafayette Area:

  • take 24 West toward Oakland

  • continue on 980 West

  • take 880 South toward San Jose

  • when you see a large building that says "National Furniture Liquidators" on your right, slow down and begin looking for the next exit

  • take the 16th St. exit (it is the first exit after Downtown Oakland's large buildings, and it has a small sign)

  • turn left at the stop sign (at the end of the off ramp)

  • continue on Embarcadero for 1/4 mile

  • when you see the Motel 6 on your right hand side, look diagonally across the street to your left, and you should see 1840

    Directions from San Francisco:

  • take 80 East across the Bay Bridge

  • stay in your right lane as you exit the Bay Bridge

  • take the 880 South Alameda/San Jose exit

  • stay on 880 South through Downtown Oakland

    FROM HARBORSIDE:

    To 880 South:

  • turn right onto Embarcadero (from Harborside's parking lot) and head north toward Downtown Oakland

  • continue on Embarcadero for 1/8 to 1/4 mile

  • continue straight through one stop sign

  • there will be a right hand on ramp shortly after for 880 South

    To 880 North:

  • turn left onto Embarcadero (from Harborside's parking lot) and head south away from Downtown Oakland

  • continue on Embarcadero through the stop sign and around the curve

  • turn left at the second stop light

  • stay in your left hand lane as you drive onto the overpass

  • the left hand lane becomes an on ramp for 880 North


    By bus

    From downtown Oakland
    AC Transit 82 travels along International Ave. Stop at 16th Ave., and walk west, to the right of the bus' travel direction. In one block you will start over the bridge, and at the bottom you will find us on the left.

    From Berkeley
    AC Transit 40 & 43 travel along Foothill in East Oakland, which is only 2 blocks walk from 16th Ave. May be easier than transferring, especially since AC only allows a single transfer per card issued.

    From deeper East Oakland
    Take the AC Transit 82 or the AC Transit 40/43 to 16th Ave., and walk west, to the left of the bus' travel direction. In 1-3 blocks, depending on which bus line you are on, you will start over the bridge, and at the bottom you will find us on the left.

    By bike

    From downtown Oakland
    Go to Embarcadero. Turn LEFT on Embarcadero and ride 2 miles until you pass Motel 6. Turn LEFT onto bridge ramp. Turn RIGHT into the first driveway, and you are in our parking lot. Our front door is to the right of the building as you approach.

    By foot

    From the Lake Merritt BART
    Take 7th St. south to 5th Ave. Turn RIGHT on 5th Ave. Turn LEFT on Embarcadero, continue until you pass Motel 6. Go across Embarcadero, to the first building on the left after the bridge ramp. Our front door is facing Embarcadero.
